Frederick Vogel
About Me

Frederick Vogel lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba with his wife Tamara and two little girls Violet and Dorothy. He has always had an interest in forestry as his father was a logger turned forester in Manitoba . Some of his earliest and fondest memories were traveling to check on plantations and cutovers with his dad. Rick grew up exploring both the forests of Manitoba and New Brunswick.

Rick graduated from the Intergrated Forest Resource Management program at Lakehead University in 1998. During university Rick tree planted, including pre-commercial thinning in remote North Western Ontario. After completing his studies he pursued his career in forestry as a Forestry Technician for Manitoba Conservation. In the off-season he stayed in a remote logging camp where he ran a skidder. Rick is also proud of his experience as a log hauler, driving semi-trucks to the mill.

In 2006 life took Rick to the city, where he started working at the City of Winnipeg Urban Forestry Department. He obtained his Manitoba Arborist Certification and now specializes in high risk tree removals with the Dutch Elm Disease program as both bucket truck operator and tree climber. Rick has had vast training with Arboriculture Canada Training and Education Ltd (ACTE), and has been teaching the Chainsaw Safety and Felling Techniques course for city employees for the last few years. Rick has most recently became a contract instructor with ACTE and looks forward to sharing his commitment to safety with others.
